I pulled the engine out of my truck today and want to install a new front seal and rear main seal. It is a 250 six cylinder. Couple of questions. I know the harmonic balancer must be removed with a puller, but how do I re-install it? I thought I could thread a bolt into the end of the crank and pull it back onto the crank with the bolt, but the crank does not have a threaded hole in the end. So, how do you re-install a harmonic balancer? Second, are there any tricks to installing the rear seal? Will it be necessary to remove the rear main cap and loosen all other main caps so I can pull the crank away from the block a little? Or, can the top half of the seal usually be removed and replaced without loosening all main caps? Is the rear seal a real bear of a job? What have I gotten myself into? Tim

Tim, Check out the Tech Tips under engines for rear oil seal replacement. Did mine with no problem. Never did the front one so can't give you my two cents.

You can install the balancer with a heavy drift & a large hammer. Clean the surfaces real good & use some rtv sealer on the balancer.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.
