Is there a gm box that is almost a straight bolt in or minimal amount of work to convert a TF trucker over to. i'm intending to use a newer column but keep the i-beam

Yes, there is a bolt in box that will work in your truck. The box you are lookiing for is the power steering box from a 1955-1959 gmc pickup. They are extremely rare. I have a 1959 gmc that came with the power steering. The complete system with steering column, box, power steering pump and hoses routinely sells for $3500 US dollars or so on epay, when they turn up. They don't turn up very often. I believe there are several aftermarket power steering conversions available for less bank role. I don't have any experience with the aftermarket PS boxes.

not what i was hoping for. heres the story. i've decided to build a hotrod/ratrod. i had a 40 gmc i was going to use but sold the cab because i had too many projects. so i'm going with a 63 acadian beaumont wagon that i've had awhile. i know you southern folks are scratching your heads "what". the car was not restorable but rare and different plus i grew up driving a beaumont wagon. well to make a long story short. i've already turned the wagon into a 2dr sedan delivery. next i picked up the front half of a 55 chev truck chassis. yes i'm going gasser. everything is going along good but what power steering box do i use. the frame will be 2x4 with the stock leaf mount bolt to the frame. after looking at numerous chassis, i'm thinking any gm box with a pitman arm going rearward and tie the 2 links together. but i was hoping for suggestions because i haven't done any fabbing yet just collecting.
thanxs steve

It sounds like you are in a new territory. Do you have any parts left over from that 1940 gmc? I am building one of those now.
