I'm wanting to convert to 12 volt and not sure where to start. I want to keep the foot starter. My wiper motor isn't working so thinking about switching to 12 electrical. The defrost bearly got me home so planning on installing a heater and defroster assembly in 12 volt. Speedo and odometer don't work. get rebuild?? This is going to be an everyday driver pulling a small trailer hauling carpet for installing. My ranger's tranny or clutch is about to crap out on me. Get an alt. & bracket kit. Put a Runtz resister on the fuel gauge. Change all the bulbs to 12 v. You already solved the wiper & heater part. That's about it but its pretty general. If you need help with the alt. circuit put another post in. A lot of people use the 1 wire alt for simplicity, but I still like the 3 wire w/int. reg. Don't get a high powered alt. About 55-65 amp tops. You can still use your original amp. meter with it. Besides the belt won't pull any more then that.
We are lucky here in K.C. area. We have 3 of the best parts places here in town.

It puts out more total amps. but mainly it puts out more at idle & slow speeds. The 1 wire is easy to hook up but the 3 wire system has better control. An alt. is more dependable & lasts much longer then a gen.
