Well, I've begun restoring the ol' burb. It all started when I decided to replace the 216 with a 261. You know how it goes, "I'll just pull the motor and replace it" and then "hell, while I'm here, I might as well fix the rust on the fenders" and next thing you know the whole thing is in pieces. So I'm gonna try and post on here often to get help with the project. So here is a link to the pictures I have so far of the tear apart.

From the beginning, most would question why you are taking it down because it is such a nice looking Suburban, but the pictures shows you what the PO did to make it look that way. Ugly looking corner cab and under the fender patches. Make sure you keep Ray Stanley in mind when you go to repair those areas. He has most of the patches that you need for this area.

GMONIZ, I have all those guys on speed dial I've been doin' a little more mud doggin' and it ain't pretty. If they had spent as much time patching it correctly as they did spreading bondo, it'd look pretty nice. No kidding, 3/8" bondo on the bed sides to cover a patch. I suspected a little mud but this is crazy. Oh well it's gotta be done sometime.

Thank goodness for Ray's beautiful patches or otherwise i'd be up a creek. I think I may call him and say "send 'em all to me"

Awesome project and nice photos to look over. I have used Ray's rear lower quarter panels and they are pretty nice.

Looking forward to seeing more progress.

Fender patch

Great job! There's a few great burb restos in progress. It's good to know we can all call on each other when we need to through the forum!

I've removed all of the "repairs" from the driver fender and have begun removing the passenger side "repairs" as well. Lot's of spot weld to grind. I think Ray of wheelwrights produces the body panels with the bevel around the fenders. Has anyone used these? The repair the previous owner did to the fenders did much damage to the bevel, where should I begin with the repair of damage?

Ray posts a lot on the oldgmctrucks.com page. He is also a member here and has sold lot's of panel patches. Several years ago, I sent him the rear cab corners for patterns and a few other guys have provided him with other patterns.

Well, I'm taking it apart myself I hope to do most of the work myself as well. I've yet to decide if I'm going to keep it red or not. Leaning toward Forrester Green right now. How's your project coming?
