I went scrounging the junkyards last week looking for some one-piece wheels for my 3/4 ton. I found one old guy who knew quite a bit.

You can use wheels from Chevy, Ford or Dodge trucks. The only difference is the Chevy has a smaller hub center, so Chevy wheels won't fit a Dodge or Ford. He mentioned International, which I think are identical to the Ford and Dodge, but aren't as easy to locate.

The hubcap mounts are the same on all three. Same size inner and outer mount, so you can add clips to any of the wheels and use your original style AD hubcaps.

Wheel sizes. I found a lot of 16.5" wheels, a few 16", but these were 7" wide, with a setback of about 5", which is 2" too wide for a stock AD. These would work with a later model differential, which is 3.5" wider.

I did find one 16X6" wheel, from an older Ford. Setback on it was 4", which would require a 1" spacer. This is still a thick enough spacer to require studs in the spacer, but a far better solution than a 2" spacer.

I'm still looking for a pair of 16X6" wheels, but do have a better handle on what I'm looking for.

Fred, if you find some 6" rims in most any size 15,16, etc. then a wheel place can put centers in them at whatever backspacing you need. In Dallas we used to have Southwest Wheel build our wheels from scratch with whatever rim and center we wanted. At the time it wasn't terribly pricey but who knows now. Used to buy alot from Nance Speed Equipment in Wichita when younger and into circle tracking.

I got some 8 lug 16x6 wheels off of a Dodge
one ton van at the junkyard. They had about
a 1" positive offset and they clear the tie
rod ends on my '52 3600 with no problems and
no spacer was required.

I know these wheels as Bud Wheels, 8 lug 16x6. What is a new wheel for Chevy worth these days?

Fred, keep checking on ebay and at the junkyard, there was a guy selling 16x6 199? F*rd van wheels with a 3 3/8 backspacing. His auction said they were the ones to fit on early Chevy trucks and he provided a link for the clips for the hubcap. I just looked on ebay, but don't see them right now. I also think truckandrvsupply on ebay had some of those wheels.

They weren't real cheap (about $100 a piece), I thought I was gonna have to go this route on the 53 one ton before I found a dually setup.

i used a set of 0 offset (3.5" backspace) 16x7" 8-lug wheels. they wheels fit good, but the tires i was given rubbed a little in the front. i am not them using anymore. i have listed them in the classifieds.
