Anyone out there know where I can find a "complete" steering gear box rebuild kit?
I have found one at Classic Parts but does not come with new bushings. Not sure how important they would be so a little help from someone who can help. My plan is to rebuild it and shorten it a couple inches. I have tried adjusting it the right way and just cannot get all the play out. Just too much for play for my liking. I want to keep this one stock. Thanks a bunch!!

The sector shaft bushings are one of the most important part of the rebuild. I can't imagine a kit without them.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

That is what I was thinking too... bummer. Well, if you or anyone else can come up with a place to buy the whole kit I would be very happy guy!

Thanks

You know some times it's cheaper to buy a complete box already built than try to rebuild one yourself. There is a several places on the net you can look for parts or a complete box already rebuild should you choose to go that way.

LMC,Brothers,The Truck & Car shop etc. may have what you need

PS. you might try a company out in Calif. called Obslete Parts or a Chevy Dealer dealing in new used parts there several who do that.

Hi Don,

I have looked into that option too but am not sure if the box is "completely" rebuilt. All info just says "rebuilt" with warrenty. I wonder if they have changed out the bushings since they are evidently discontinued. I would hate to go to the trouble of ordering, paying, installing and have slop after installation.I would rather rebuild it myself so I KNOW it is tight. If you know where to find the complete kit I would love to get one.

Thanks a lot Don,

Steve

Being the Holidays it may take a while to locate some parts for you but give me a PM with the box numbers bushing size, make and year and I will see what I can locate for you out here if you are not in a hurry.
If you have a machine shop near you he can make some up for you if you bring him the old bushings and the box parts they go in.

Good morning Don,

I really appreciate your help. I will get the number off the box for you if you can possibly find the parts for me. I would rather rebuild it myself and save myself 450 bucks. I am not in a hurry because winter is here and I do not drive it if it rains, snows or any other type of weather other than sunny skies. I do have a great machine shop here in the Boise area whom I trust and really knows his stuff. If we cannot find a complete kit I will check with him regarding fabricating some bushings. Thanks again for the help and I will get you the box number.

Thanks again Don,

Steve

I think a machine shop would have no problem in coming up with your bushings. Sometimes the kit bushings aren't correct.

I just bought a kit from Jim Carter and it has the bushings and he has just the bushings also.
