When putting EFI in my '57 Sunurban, I want to use the complete in-tank fuel pump/pick-up/floater assembly from a late '80s truck (the same that supplied some EFI parts) in my stock tank. I know I will have to modify a bit!
My question is whether the '80s floater part in the tank will work with the '57 gas gauge in the dashboard? They may not require the same voltage or amps...
If they would not work together for electrical reasons, how can fix this, how can I modify to make them work?
Thanks!

Why not just mount the 57 float/resistor unit on the late-model pump assembly? Since you're going to be fabricating brackets and/or modifying the top of the tank to accomodate the pump, it should be fairly simple to figure out how to mount the early sending unit to the late assembly. This would eliminate any possibility of a mismatch on resistance, float travel, etc.

Thank you, yes indeed, this would be a way to go and the logical way to work around the resistance issue. Why didn't I think of it?
I was actually liking the idea of having a modern float assembly, just in case it dies, it would be easier to go to the parts store to get a new one...
So, anyone knows anything about resistances?
