I have a 3/4 ton 52. We upgraded to 12 volt and put in a new battery with 640 cca. When we tried to start it, the starter blew apart. It was the original stater but we had it running before the conversion. Would the new battery have caused the problem?
Thanks,

12v will make a 6v starter spin faster but it won't blow a sound starter apart. Sounds like it had issues before you put the 12v to it, you just didn't know it.

I have to agree w/Tiny, I ran a 6V starter on one of my cars for over 10yrs before it went out and at that time when it went out it was a 35yr old starter...Joe
