For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 208 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 208 | Hi - guys - lil history - in March I bought a 1958 Apachie 3200 that was bone stock & had not started in 15 years.
I played around with it all year starting with a new rear main seal, then ignition switch, carb & fuel pump. The truck now ran well.
But - it didn't stop very well.
So two weeks ago I pulled her off the road & pulled all the brakes off.
I replaced both front wheel bearings with modern roller tapered ones. I installed a brand new power master cylender in the stock location. All new lines, hoses, wheel cyls & shoes. The only brake parts I didn't replace were the drums as they were in very good shape.
I finished up today & have it back on the road - unfortunately it started raining so I'm done for now (no wipers yet).
While I had it all apart I went ahead & cleaned out the rear end & replaced the oil & gasket.
I did buzz down the road a couple of blocks & WOW I am so glad I did this.
Power brakes & new wheel bearings really make this truck stop like it is new - better than new for this truck.
Can't wait for some good weather so I can try it out. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 1,464 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 1,464 | Let the good times roll (and stop good too)!!
