I am cleaning the transmission, and can see where it has leaked when in the car. What do I need to do? Are there gaskets for this? Or is this something that you don't want to open up? | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | You didn't say what year it is but I am going to assum it is an open drive shaft. You need to look it over real good to see what was leaking. Often its the rear seal. It is easy to replace. Pull the drive shaft & dig the seal out & tap in a new one. It could be leaking out of the front seal into the clutch houseing. Some early models did not have a seal in the front retainer. You can remove the front retainer & see if thats where its been leaking or the gasket underneath it. Any where else would be gaskets or the seals around the shifting shafts. All the parts are available from parts stores or specialty parts suppliers. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | |
