For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 1,624 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2005 Posts: 1,624 | In the Nov. '09 issue of "Street Rodder" there is an article on them building a shop truck from a '47 to '54 AD. The first page of the article shows a vintage file photo of the truck. All three trucks in the photo have a ONE big bar grill, or THREE depending on how you look at it. Not the five bars I am use to seeing. The photo does not state what year the trucks are, but the gas filler is in the cab, it is a five window and has a two piece windshield. What am I missing here? Thanks

All 3 trucks are '54 or '55.1 models. The first picture looks like it has a split windshield, but it is just a reflection I guess. link to article | | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 65 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 65 | Interesting article! Strange how the new cabs are available for all years except 51, why is that? I like the 51 the best because you get the vent windows and pull down door handle. Makes a real classic truck feel! 1951 Chevy 3100 "Project for my Wife" - Jigsaw Puzzle 1969 Camaro SS350 convertible 1969 Camaro 327 convertible

The trucks in the second picture are a '54 on the left and a '55 first series on the right. This is based upon the differences in the emblems on the side of the hoods. I agree with 54Tow in that there is a reflection or shadow on the windshield of the truck in the first picture, giving the appearance of a split windshield. Other pictures in the link, showing the shop truck they are building, do show a split window cab.
I hope this answers your question. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 1,624 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2005 Posts: 1,624 | Are you guys good or what? Is the five bar grill aftermarket only? When did the split windshield disappear from the AD, if it ever had one? Sorry for sooo many questions but this is harder than collecting WWII Garands (M-1's) and carbines (also called M-1's, but hey...it's the Army). Thanks

It was published by the LCVA (Ligh Commercial Vehicle Association), which became "This Old Truck", and is now named "Vintage Trucks".
