Hi! Guys I am new here and am seeking a little info, I want to buy a prewar truck that has no title and import it into Canada, I know that I require a title in order do so. My question is how difficult is it to get a title and how do you go about getting one not being a US resident. I have a friend in the US who I could put the truck in their name, then have it sold back to me. Just wondering what the best way would be to go about this before I jump in with the money. I'm not sure about the 'intricacies' of importing a truck into Canada from the U.S. but I think Trev (37ChevyTruckGuy) went through this just a while back,it might be an idea to shoot him a PM.
He's a real helpful guy and might be able to give you some tips...

getting a title is not a problem you can do it in one of two way's
#1 call one of the title compnay broadway is good ,
#2 if you have a friend or relative in one of the NO TITLE state's have them fix you a bill of sale then title it in your state ,

the way this work's is some state's do not even issue title's for old vehicles they use a bill of sale and registration to prove ownership , if you buy a vehicle from a non title state and take either a bill of sale or bill of sale and current registration to your state they have to issue you a title for it ,,

Thx for the response guys,if I end up with this truck I will get a hold of Broadway and have them get the title, seems the less complicated way. I did not think that there would be a company that specialized in getting titles. Anyone know an approximate cost?

just a few monthe ago, i had broadway straighten out a title problem of a bill of sale mess that was created by their customer who sold me his truck, and the process has become more expensive and time consuming. fortunately, mine was a simple fix, but after hours on the phone in the process, they said that the bill of sale/title industry has taken hit from the law makers. bec all-in-all, the process has a strong potential for fraud, and the government is cracking down on them

the only way they can put a stop to the bill of sale turned into title is ALL states would have to issue titles for ALL vehicle's
IT WILL TAKE THEM A WHILE TO GET THAT DONE !

I know Illinois has been cracking down on Broadway title, but I think you can still use International title service out of Las Vegas. They get paperwork through Maine I believe. For me it was gonna cost around $250.

and according to a local salvage yard, the 'cash for clunkers' was used as a guinea pig. and the 200 vehicles, many in very good condition, that made it to the yard are not allowed to be sold as vehicles, and are very boldly marked, for parts only

Broadway brought that on themselves by issuing antique titles on custom built vehicles that just "looked" old so the owners could avoid the safety and emission requirements of new vehicles.

What state is the truck in? It may be simpler to pay the current owner a bit extra to jump through the hoops to get a title to the truck.


If the people who have the truck now either had a title at one time or are related to someone who did they can probably file for a lost title with the state. Again, offer to pay bit to have that done. It isn't hard but does take a trip to the dmv or license office to do plus the fee.

If you have a friend down here who has a towing company or wrecking yard that you can trust you could have him run it though the yard, get the state to inspect it and then issue you a bill of sale that you can take and get a title and plates. At least that can be done in this state with a complete vehicle.
Again there would be expenses but the title would be legit when you were done.

yes, with that specific action. but now they state in their verbiage that they don't do those titles. but this scenario is a more telling one; they are only required by law to verify that the vehicle hasn't been REPORTED stolen. so, if for some reason a person hasn't reported their vehicle to be stolen; ie, on vacation and doesn't know it's been stolen, then broadway is legally in the clear to do a bill of sale
