Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 431 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 431 | not necessarily specific to the '61 235 i'm putting back together, but somewhere along the line, i read that the inner main caps are installed whereby the arrow on the cap near the rear main is pointed toward the rear. and that the cap near the front main is installed with it's arrow pointed toward the front. but someone told me that both caps are to be installed with their arrows pointed toward the front. looking at them, i don't see where it'd matter | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | It's been a while since I've had my 235 apart, but I seem to recall that all the arrows pointed to the front, and rear cap only rits one way anyway, due to the rear main seal. You definetly don't want to switch them around, as they are machined to position when the block was align bored for the crank. If they are installed in the wrong position, it will throw the bearings out of alignment.

The F closest to the block front and the R closest to the block rear. Assuming arrows would mean the same thing,they would be directional.

| | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 431 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 431 | well, i finally found the arrows, and numbers, on the front and rear caps also, and that can mean only one thing; they all point to the front. bec the front and rear can only go on one way, and that's with their arrows pointing forward. so, the other two would naturally have their's pointing forward man, they need to have their arrows and numbers better stamped, bec i had to get them under a high intensity lamp and play the tilt it this and that way to see them. time to get the stamps and dremel out
also, i can't find the source now, but i read that the ring grooves in pistons can sometimes be too deep, and that there's narrow shim material made so that it can be wrapped around inside the groove in order to lessen it's depth. and their point was to keep the ring from going any further in than .ox from the outside surface of the pistons. but my brain tells me that they can't go in any further than the cylinder wall can 'push' them in | | |
