At the first check, the rear was a little higher, and the lube trickled out at plug opening. So I put a jack under front cross member, but think maybe I lifted a litle too much, and added some 200 ml, until the fluid was not oozing, but at the plug opening level. Is there any harm, or the differential vent will take care of any eventual overpressure or the like? If this info helps, the truck was at garage temp (not run), but today was a very hot day. Many thanks for any advice. | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | year, size, type of rear end?

I was always taught to fill until your little finger could feel the fluid through the fill hole. However with those a top fill hole I don't know.

Differential is (to my knowledge)a Dana -ex Rockwell-Braseixos here. 3.9 to 1 ratio. May be seen at http//djjaragua.vilabol.uol.com.br.veraneio.htm . Was subject of my first post (10 may 2008) about valve adjustment, which deserved the first reply from you, tclederman, and others equally kind answers from hotshoe36, truckernix, atomarc, 54TOW and TxLaTx. Many thanks, extensive to BIG CHEVY 3600. | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 15 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 15 | Nevermind. Today I put the truck at an absolute horizontal attitude with a masonry level tool, and let the fluid run out until it stopped. So, I think it's OK now. I could have done this before, but had foud difficulty to find some safe supports the right size (and because of my laziness - sorry, but age -70- doesn't help). Many thanks, anyway. | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 208 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 208 | In the end - a little extra oil in the rear end will not hurt. A lot of extra oil will blow out the vent tube when it gets hot & can eventually hurt the seals. | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 15 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 15 | Many thanks, Midget Farmer ! | | |
