do you measure the top of backing plate to top of backing plate ?? I have 53 3100 got 59.5 for measurement,, reason I ask is a friend was gonna give me a 85 camero 10 bolt eaton posi rear (3:23) which if Im right is 56inces wide bp to bp, could this work with a 3inch offset rim?? Im asking cuz I dont want something that wont work..

Wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface is the most accurate. Tells you exactly where the wheels are!

Right, compare the wheel mounting surfaces, and confirm that the backing plates are in the neighborhood and fit outside the springs, usually not a problem.

If the wheel mounting surface measurement is off, consider what wheels you will use, might be you can still make it work with the right wheels.

Even if you offset the wheels, they may still hit the inner fenders. Check that measurement while you at it.

Clamp to rullers or straight flat steel to each axle flange and measure across. Then add the thickness of each brake drum or rotor if disk brake.
