For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 12 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Nov 2009 Posts: 12 | Hello,
I'm sure this has been covered before and I did try looking for past posts, but no luck. Anyway, I was wondering if I could replace the stock 3 speed with a crash box 4 speed with out any drive line fit issues? The vehicle is a '46 GMC with a 248. Otherwise virtually all original.
Thanks!

My brain asks why you would want to make this swap? You would only gain the super low granny gear. You would lose the syncros the 3 speed offered. This swap will not make your truck go faster. It doesn't seem like a great tradeoff, unless your 3 speed was dead and you had the 4 speed in front of you. The brake cylinder bracket will have to be modified to work.
Orinda isn't too far from SF, and there are plenty of members on this board that live around the bay area.
Welcome to the "Bolt"
