Ok, just finished the 235 and am wanting to back it with a saginaw 4 speed, rearend is ready for the pumpkin swap and am debating on trans options, Im not looking for anything over 60MPH on the highway as im trying to keep this simple! I want the sycro first gear of the saginaw and would like to make as little modifications as possible, will all the saginaws bolt up to the 47 bellhousing I have, also using the same flywheel, clutch pplate and stomp starter to do this! Everyone I know says go t-5, well I dont want the t-5, please give any insite on this, thanks for your time!!!!!!

It depends on your rear end ratio. The Saginaw 4 speed is straight through in high gear so it won't give you better highway gearing. I'm getting ready to take out the Saginaw from mine & put in a T-5. The Saginaw will be for sale soon.

You still got a rear pumpkin I can use for my 47 1/2 ton rear? if i were to use a rear pumpkin for my rear and a saginaw, would it be a decent swap?

I take it your 47 is the second series. We can get another pumpkin. It will probably be 3.90 gear ratio. It willrun 60 mph but will not be comfortable or get good gas mileage, unless you change to the 3.38 gears which is very expensive.

I've had a saginaw in mine for a while. It's behind a V8, so I may not be helping much.

When I had a 4:10 rear, it would run ~3000RPM @ 60 MPH and ~3500 RPM at 70. Swaped to 3:38's and now am running about 2800 at 70.

Be sure to go with the cast iron 4 speed that has the mount on the rear, not the aluminum model.

If you go with the cast iron saginaw 4 speed, the ideal first gear is the one with the 2 groves on the input shaft. I have a 3 grove on the back of a 235. While ok its awful long with a short second gear.
