I think it is from a 1930's vehicle and is definitely 6V. I have one voltage reducer 12v-6v connected so far which gets hotter than a two dollar pistol. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 | The heater will draw around 8 amps and across 6 volts thast is 48 watts. The resistors that they sell get very hot and they are contained in a metal shell. It should be mounted on some sheet metal to disapate the heat. | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 | Thanks truckernix, that's what I needed to hear. Would an aluminum mounting plate help with heat dissipation or would steel be better? | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 | As long as the heat can go somewhere. it really doesn't matter. If I were doing it, I would probably attach it somewhere above the kick panel where there is a bit of an inner panel. I think the antenna brace attaches in the area that I am thinking of. | | | | Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 224 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 224 | how many ohms would that resistor need to be ? | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 | It should be a little less than 1 ohm. It would be 6v/8A or about .75 ohms. Some fan motors may draw a little less. | | |
