For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 37 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 37 | I'm re-building a 3 speed transmission on for a 1946 1/2 ton. The 2nd/3rd gear syncro has internal snap rings that retain hubs at either end. They were fairly easy to disassemble using snap ring like pliers with blunt ends that are actually used to spread piston rings. Re-asssembly is another question. Does anyone have a trick? The snap ring slips off the end of the pliers as the tips are moves back to provide clearance for re-inserting the hub. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,805 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,805 | There is a special pair of heavy duty snap ring pliers with serrations on the tips that grip those snap rings properly. Check with Snap-On or K-D Tools, or possibly K-Line or Goodson. You won't find them at any of the tool discounters like Harbor Freight or Northern Tool, because very few people rebuild standard transmissions any more. Jerry
