I have painted two trucks already with acrylic enamel. I've learned a little along the way, and feel confident about painting a third vehicle which might be an o/t, I had a few buddies trying to save money and wanted me to paint this and that, or my 1950 3600 which will probally be dupont base/clear. I been buying all my paint at a local parts store good prices ($101 for dupont GM metalic silver) and good products. But Summit racing (who has a good reputation) and Paintforcars.com (who I have never heard of before) is way cheaper almost too good for the paint to be any account, due they sell a good product or is it just cheap store brand stuff. For a budget paint job would the cheap stuff be good or should i stick with dupont. Thanks for any advice.

If I remember right and someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think Paintforcars.com supplies Summit with paint. I do know that one of the discount suppliers provides paint for Summit. There is nothing wrong with paintforcars.com. I've used their paint and have been pleased with it. Another good supplier is SPI. Southern Polyeurathanes Inc and Kirker Paints that you can get from Smartshopper.com

My experiance with Dupont is good, but my experiance with PPG/Ditzler is even better! fewer additives available because it's better formulated. Just MHO. I have had good and bad expeiances with lesser known paints. You're asking around is exactly what I would reccomned anyone do to find out what's going on.

dupont is good product and consistent cheaper product do not have the consistency they change and are not always the same one good one bad, dupont is always the same any big name one will be the same also have good uv protection that the cheaper one lacks looks good but will break down much sooner

I will add an opinion to this , I used to love acrylic enamel back in the 80's but they have changed it so much now that it is not the same product it used to be and won't hold up very long even if you do a good job , the base clear on the other hand will last FOR YEAR's and is easy to use , so even if it cost's a little more I would use base clear on most anything ,,

I'm a cheap garage spray booth guy - personally, I like tcp global's acrylic urethane single stage - sprays and color sands like acrylic enamel - In fact, better than my experiences with Dupont Centari AE. I painted the exterior of my '53 truck with 1 gallon yesterday (4 medium coats) - good coverage and good laydown with a little extra reducer - This is the second time i've used this product with good results. You can buy 1 gallon of premixed color (gallon of color, quart of hardener, quart of reducer) for about $100+shipping.
