I liked the 88 because I have read often that 87 and up are better.
~ The trans does not have a speedo cable... Yet, an 88 should be a th700r4, not an electronic 4l60e (those only started in 93), so, what is up with that? How would I connect my speedo?
~ How do you remove the TV cable from the trans? I have removed the little screw that holds the cable on the trans case, but the wire is still attached inside the trans!... So? And how do you remove the TV cable from the throttle bracket? The throttle cable has a little clip, easy to remove, but the TV cable has no clip...

you need to either get a converter box for $300, or go electronic on the gauges.

Then it will push through the bracket, but you'd better grab the bracket, too. The cable end itself just pushes forward off the stud on the throttle linkage. It's plastic, so don't break it! Even if you have to modify the way the bracket bolts on, you'll need it to complete your installation. On the transmission end, once the top of the cable housing is free, you can pull the housing up far enough to unclip the cable. There's a short wire that connects the TV valve on the valve body to the cable, and it goes about an inch up into the cable housing. Depending on the year model, there might also be a vacuum switch mounted on the firewall that is needed to get the converter clutch to lock up.

Your info also helped me look at the TV cable better, now I see all there is to see. It is funny how sometimes, we can get stuck with simplest thing, really! (like how the cable is attached to the throttle bracket, duh!).
