For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 71 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 71 | i know por-15 has been addressed many times before but my application needs further clarification as i have heard conflicting information. the paint on the roof and hood on one of my trucks has worn away and there is surface rust which is starting to pit. all i would like to do is stabilize it with por 15. i know that on a surface exposed to sunlight por15 needs to be covered. i have been told that por-15 can only be covered with a certain type of paint and that conventional paint will not adhere to it. when i called por-15 directly the rep. told me that i could go over the por-15 with any paint no problem??? which course of action should i take? also i know that por-15 sells the marine clean and the metal prep which they recommend using as part of the three part process. my truck is not a show truck so i do not want to invest too much time or money. what kind of results could i expect if i were to just scrape and clean the metal real well and just apply the por-15 direct??? thanks | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 | I assume you wish to paint the exterior of your truck with POR-15 then paint over this? They do make a tie coat which allows you to paint over the POR. Personally I would recommend the Metal prep, although you could probably skip the Marine clean. Just make sure the metal is clean and grease/oil free. 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr. If so, recoat the POR15 with sandable primer within the recoat time, becuase POR15 does not sand very easily. I prefer the rustmort route for exterior rust that needs to be topcoated, but I have used this stuff with success in raingutters. It sands much easier than POR15 and Rustbullet. masterseries | | | | | Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 54 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 54 | I agree that master series is an easier / better product to use then POR15. That just comes from my personal experience. it can be painted over or left in the sun if you need (if you don't mind the bright silver color.
I am just here to learn, and to meet like minded people.
