The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Shift box adjustment

I just got the shiftbox back from Jim Carters, and installed it today. Seems as if I have something out of alignment, because 2nd and 3rd are easy to get, but 1st and reverse are hard to find. It just seems like I can't pull the shifter back towards me to find 1st. I did some adjusting on the rods from the trans, up and down, but only helped with 2nd and 3rd alittle. Does anyone have any other things to try? Thanks.

No one has any ideas for me? I can't imagine that I am the only one that has ever had this problem. Of course, that is my luck with the things on this truck though.

You should adjust the rods so that you can pull forward & back in neutral without without catching. You may have it mounted too close or too far back from the shift lever. There is a little room for adjustment in the coupler that mounts the shafts together. It's all a matter of getting the correct adjustments. Carters has a good tech. adviser if you can't get it right.
