I've searched the forums back five years but can't find a definitive answer to this question.

I have a '56 235 truck engine with 1/2" wide harmonic balancer and generator pulleys. To avoid moving the radiator in my '54 3100, I've ordered a short shaft water pump from Patrick's with a 3/8" wide pulley; a 1/2" wide pulley is not available.

Can I use a 3/8" wide belt with this setup or must I find a 3/8" harmonic balancer and generator pulley?

There are several new parts dealera around the country who have gone and bought old new Chevy GMC and GM parts for sale. You might try and find one of these guys. We have one in California who specializes in Chevy Cars and might have a balancer and pully you could use. The parts he sells were manufactured by GM. at one time.
I still might have his number here. I am sure all the pulleys are the same on each engine.

A 3/8" belt works fine in a pulley designed for a 1/2" belt.
