I'm rebuilding my '55 12V Delco generator and when I oiled the rear bushing the oil just ran out so I removed the round metal cover on the cavity below the rear bushing and there's nothing in there! Is there supposed to be something in there and, if so, what does it look like? I've searched the forums but didn't find anything on this particular subject.

Thanks; I have the bushing. It's the "oil cavity" below it that's empty. Is there supposed to be felt or something in there to soak up the oil for the rear bushing? Or are the replacement bushings oil-impregnated bronze that require no lubrication?

The bushing is oilite bronze, which really doesn't need lube, but if you want to go traditional, put a piece of cotton sash cord into the opening under the oil cup and drip just a little SAE 30 oil into it. The oldtime generator rebuilding kits included new oil wicks, along with bushings and other small parts necessary to do a good rebuilding job.
