1957 GMC Rear-end Housing

Ok. The truck that I’m trying to buy has a brace welded to the axel tube over the pumpkin to the other axel tube.
Sorry for the photos you can just see it if you look close.
Is this normal?
Or is this bad?

Does make me wonder if the truck's been overloaded at one point. I've seen similar modifications on axles used in stock cars. The idea is to stiffen the axle housing. Does the truck drive alright? No funny camber wear on the rear tires (which would indicate a bent housing)?
I'm not sure that I would worry too much if everthing checks out.

I would think a stiffner would be under the housing, but you never know what a previous owner had in mind.
