I think you are referring to the clutch disc/plate, as Stuart supposes.

It is difficult, I think, to say which side is down without seeing the clutch disc/plate. When you place the disc on the flywheel (on the engine) will the disc lay flat in both orientations?
Are there any markings (words or letters) on either side of the disc?

It should also be stamped or marked flywheel side.

Sorry. and no , there were no markings on the disc to tell me which side, hence the confusion. I put it in with the long or " tall" side facing the flywheel. It does lay flat. Just want to make sure. I can't check it by depressing the clutch to see if it will release because the engine assembly is not in the truck but rather on a dolly on the floor. | | |
