The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Big Bolts wiper actuator arm attachment

The wiper actuator arms, the flat pieces of metal that connect to the wiper motor on one end and the wiper blades on the other, came off on my 1949 Chevy 4400 (1.5 ton). They were held on to the wiper motor drive lever via a clip. I have the clips... they wound up on the floorboard. The clips seem to have had a spring attached and et cetera. I don't want to pull everything out of the dash and pull the wiper motor. I can reach the back of the wiper motor and can put the actuator arms back on the wiper motor drive lever, but I can't see it (but I know what is there by feel).

Does anyone know how the original clips were configured? Any advice for a work-around when the original clips fail?

The two clips kind of resemble the tabs on beer cans. They had a hole in them and were held in place by a small spring. I'm not sure if a spring that small is available at parts houses. A spring out of a retractable pen might work. If you loosen the wiper motor a little, you can twist it around a little and see what you are doing. The arms go on about a 3/16 post with a snap ring grove towards the end. This is where the tabs go and the spring keeps them in place by pulling against each other.
