I have problem with the driver's side wiper on my 1957 truck. When they are on, sometimes it goes too far out and gets stuck. It doesn't happen everytime. When they park they park fine, as long as they aren't stuck off to the side.

It is the factory electric wipers.

What is this issue?

Mabe the linkage is worn out , I would check that frist ,the arm can only travel so far but as the linkage wears so the wiper arm moves more and more .

I agree what Pete says, sounds like the linkage is worn to the point the crank is going overcentre and jamming.

BTW how does a wiper linkage wear out in Ca?? wink

I think this was a high-mountain California truck, the door bottoms and cab corners were/are shot. Maybe slinging snow off the windshield?

I checked it out, it appeared to be a compound problem.

The toggle that goes through the hole in the firewall/cowl is made of two pieces that sandwich a ballstud on the linkage from the wiper. The two pieces are brazed together with solder, and that solder had cracked, allowing the two pieces to move around slightly. A quick tack weld fixed that, hopefully.

Next, the end of the linkage was bent at about a 45 degree angle. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be like that, but it didn't seem logical to me so I straightened it out.

Seems to be working alright now, but the heavy downpour stopped last night.

Thanks guys, now it's onto finding and making a heater/defrosted work!! thumbs_up

No problem!! smile I remember when my folks told me we were moving to California, I had visions of beaches, surfboards, and hot chicks everywhere.

Boy, was I surprised when we arrived in Livermore. Cows, lizards, and eculyptus trees, yee ha!
