#58238 03/25/2006 2:37 PM | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 586 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 586 | Use the old gears(if you still have them)to match the marks up in relation to the keyway groove.I think you will find it is the "O" marks.After you install the cam,you can check yourself by turning the engine clockwise and #1 or #6 intake valve should start to open.The cam turns at 1/2 speed to the crank.#1 and #6 are up at the same time.The top of the exhaust stroke or the top of the intake stroke.

Your cam gear is most likely fiber (non-metallic); truck engines had a metal (alloy ?) gear. Either cam gear may be used on either engine. | | |
