Hey to all.I like this site.I am going to learn a lot and promise to research w/out asking too many ??s.But I am stumped.I have a 56 gmc with ser # 101px8957.So by the numbers it tells me i have a 100 series shortwheelbase but it has dual rear wheels and they are 17".Are all the spindles the same even if it has 8 lug wheels? The rear end is 10 bolt i believe and i think is spicer 45 a.Are my serial #s wrong or did they make a dually 100 series. It all looks stock w/ no mods that i can see. Some rust but nothing unfixable. The model id plate from the inside of the glovebox is missing but i got the info i posted here of of the door pillar. So i guess if anyone can tell me what spindle and bearings i need considering the 8 lug wheels it would be a big help and also is this truck a bit rare or rare option.Any help or answers will be very much appreciated. Thanks newbie

Unfortunately I don't know the 55-59 trucks well enough to answer your question with confidence.

You might want to run over to oldgmctrucks.com and ask there. You'll find some serious GMC experts there.

That serial number, starting 101 sure sounds like a 1/2-ton to me. The 8-lugs wheels sure sound like a 3/4-ton. Duals sound like a 1-ton.

I would not be surprised if someone has swapped bigger axles under your truck. What are your front hubs? Are they also 8-lug?

I often see an 80's Blazer running around here with 8-lug hubs. Must be an axle swap. There is a local 4x4 shop that specializes in putting axles under rock crawlers and that kind of stuff. I"m sure he would put bigger axles under almost anything.

It's true. I really don't do anything but browse the Internet looking for trouble...

Is that serial number on the cab? Maybe someone has replaced the cab on a 1 Ton truck. I don't think putting 1 Ton suspension components on a 1/2 Ton truck would be an easy thing to do.
