| | | Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 69 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 69 | we sent the block, crank, cam and gear, and the head off to the machine shop. and we were told we are gonna get everything back in 3 to 4 weeks. but we still have to remove all of the rust from the frame, and there's mountains of body work. so when we rebuild the engine, its most likely not gonna be turned over for another 5 months. is there a special lube required to keep the engine from freezing up after 5 months? i don't want to rebuild the engine again

Permatex is what I usually use. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 841 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 841 | the cam usually calls for a special lube not just the reg assembly lube. | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | GM EOS (available from AC/Delco dealers or local GM dealer parts dept) or Comp Cams break in lube on the cam. Use liberally, along with assembly lube on the bearings. You may also disassemble the rocker shaft and coat it with assembly lube before you install it. Then take the cover off the oil pump and pack the gears with some wheel bearing grease. This will help the pump make more suction at startup so it'll pull the oil up faster. Make sure to add another bottle of break inlube before you do initial startup.
