I'm getting ready to take cab off chassis...last thing I did was remove windshield, but I fubared the ss trim that goes in the rubber seal...is this going to be a bear to find a replacement? They don't seam easily available.

What truck are you working on? ss trim is not always cheap or easy to find, but keep an eye out on the swap meet page and check craigslist and ebay, it can be found.

I won't be needing till probably next spring...the usual suspects, LMC etc have the rubber windshield molding listed, but never see the metal insert trim piece...live and learn I guess.

How close are you to Indy? There's an indoor swap meet coming up at the state fairgrounds on the 19th. Might be worth going to, might be able to find replacements. Harmons will be there, and there's several other vendors that handle pre-'72 parts, new and used, that are usually there. You might check with Paul Parlett if you go, I've bough NOS parts from him in the past. Good guy, decent prices and the parts are just as he says they are.

On the 60 to 66 trucks they make two types windshield rubber the standard black and the custom rubber with the trim in it. If you get the LMC or Truck Shop or Brothers catuloge's they show both of them the trim is made right on the rubber

LMC does make the standard and deluxe windshield RUBBER, but the trim is not reproduced by anyone to my knowledge. I have an extra set but it's for a kneeknocker cab- not a 64-66.
Try Colettesbro and/or RJ on the the Parts For Sale section of the Stovebolt classifieds. If they don't have it, no one does. (Except of course, Jim Carter's used dept!)

I'm probably going to have to live without it...I'm not doing a restro back to original, more of a clean flat rat style, but it would be a nice highlight piece to put back on. Thanks for tip on the Indy swap...that shouldn't be to hard to make, couple hours away, I'm just west of South Bend. Just kind of a kick in the crack that I destroyed such a hard piece to get.

How bad did you mess it up?

Man, I hate that... I have some for mine on another truck but I was not sure how to remove it yet. I was thinking I would cut the rubber like I am going to remove the windshield. In the past I just take a razor knife and stick between the glass and the rubber and cut it all the way around.

Does anyone know the proper way to get that trim off?

Use a utility knife to remove the old rubber and it will come right off.
On the plus side at this years truck nationals while doing the Jim Carters tour it seemed that he did have some used pieces in his vault. Maybe I am wrong as they could be for a different year. Definitely worth a check. You said you weren't going to need it for a year so then you have a great reason to make next years nationals.

I have sets of factory windshield trim for the '60-'63 and the 4-5-6 style, including the factory clips. The rubber windshield grommet is not made with the stainless steel windshield trim in it. When installing, put the trim in the grommet and then put the rubber on the windshield and then install the windshield.

I found a auto glass shop in my area that will furnish and install a new windshield, including removal of the old windshield & rubber and dispose of it, for less than a new windshield from LMC or Classic Parts costs. They also guarantee the installation.
