Hi everyone,
I just bought a '46 chevy half ton. Its been primed, and I'm not sure what the original color was. The engine compartment appears to have the original paint which is red, however the dash and interior panels are black. I have seen a few pictures of black and red two tone trucks. Was that stock or is that just a popular color combo to do? Where can I go about finding the original colors? I'm not looking to do a Barret Jackson perfect restoration here, I plan to drive and enjoy the truck but if I'm going to paint it, I might as well get it as close as possible to the correct colors.

Thanks,
Jason

Red with black fenders & running boards was probably originally the second most popular color combo. The interior paint was kind of a hammered beige and is sold by several parts suppliers.

So the interior color was the same on the trucks regardless of exterior color?

Yes. But the interior of course was not just indiscriminately sprayed. The parts of the cab itself such as the seat riser and door jambs were body color, the floorboard, toeboard, pedals and brake + shift levers, seat frame, and seat frame support channels were black, the rest of the removable panels were beige, and the steering column and wheel were brown, etc.

Quite a bit going on there. Are there any good pictures or diagrams that point that sort of stuff out for reference? Is the dashboard itself beige or body color?

Thanks for all the info,

Jason

The dashboard was beige. If it is sheetmetal, highly visible and easily removable, it was probably beige. Feel free to email or pm me about what color any number of random parts are and I will probably know.

Thanks for the help, you may be getting an email here soon. If I just had a picture to go by I would be all set!
