Today my 53 pickup is in a zillion pieces. I have taken every part apart. I have three buildings filled with parts. The first thought in my head when I get up each day is WILL I REMEMBER HOW IT ALL GOES TOGETHER??? I have taken pictures, made drawings, made tags, color coded, memorized procedures, and other things you don't want to know. I'm not sure my ratchet even remembers how to tighten a bolt. What if I put the wrong thing together first. There must be an infinite number of wrong ways. I've got to remember the little guide that keeps the parking brake rod from wearing into the frame and the rod itself needs to be installed before the cab. Tell me this is the low and that my mind can finally forget details such as this as I rebuild that PU. Well this weekend I finally start putting it TOGETHER.

I can relate. Well, now the fun starts when you get to put it together. It may be frustrating at times but also rewarding as you see it begin to take shape. Good luck and remember we're your support group.

You might want to get a factory assemble manual , it helps alot when You go to install a group of parts kinda like the chicken or the egg thing and what bolts to use when . It has helped Me , there are cross ref. on the bolts and nuts but You would have to ask here on the bolt I took pics to but the manual is good to have so You can get a feel on what the factory did frist .

I look at my assembly manual constantly, and I took a million pictures. I'm actually amazed how I can remember little details and how things go together from 3 years ago. I usually couldn't tell you what I did yesterday.

The assembly manual has been the biggest help to me. I took several pictures but it always turns out that when a question comes up, it happens to be about something that I didn't think of when taking pictures and it is always just outside any of the pictures I have.

Even though I have been taking old GMCs apart and putting them together for over 50 years, I still wind up with extra parts occasionally. The fact that I always have some parts trucks around to look at is helpful. You will actually be amazed that not that many parts fit in the wrong place. Occasionally you will discover you left out a part and have to take something apart again, but that happens. And at least you won't have rusted threads to deal with like you did on the first dis assembly. Good luck and have fun. The hobby was meant to be enjoyable...not something to worry about. You will get some real satisfaction out of doing something right and just laugh off the bloopers.
