Will a 48 216 bolt up to a 54 3spd trans? Thanks

Yes, if you are referring to an enclosed drive-shaft 3-speed.

Use your 48 clutch housing and clutch assembly (including the throw-out (release) bearing.

Note: you do not say what transmission you had on your '48: the 3-speed and the 4-speed enclosed drive-shaft transmissions have different u-joint yokes at the transmission end of the u-joint assembly.
