on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 4 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 4 | Howdy,
My brother just picked up a 1967 GMC 3/4 ton with the 351E V6 under the hood. It has the 400 Automatic and 4:10 gears.
We want to do a complete restoration on the truck, but we've heard that this motor is difficult to find parts for and can be very expensive. Also, that it's only good for high torque situations and the rest of the time is extremely inefficient.
I'm basically looking for any info, advice, warnings, etc, that everyone has about this motor and possible restoration.

Everything you would want to know about that engine. I have a 305E V6 in my 1966 GMC and I wouldn't change it for anything. It may not be fastest on most fuel efficient, but it is built to last and certainly something different. Although my truck is still under construction, I stop at a number of cruise nights. It always amazes me to listen to the folks that peek under the hood and have no idea what engine it is! Lol. This is a project truck too, we pulled it off the trailer 2 weeks ago and that's where it sits. It's pretty much going to be a frame off complete restoration because most of the body is shot from this Michigan climate. We've found a new bed for it but that's about all we've done.
Do you know of any good websites or dealers that sell parts for those motors? I'm going to look over that website, but if you know of any I would appreciate it. We want to estimate what the restoration costs might be.
I'm trying to convince my brother that a stock restoration on this unique truck would be worth his money. He's a 17 year country boy that has an itch for offroading, lol. His plan is to convert it to 4 wheel drive and drop in a built 350.
again, thanks for the advice. do you have any pics of your online anywhere?
- Ben
