i was putting in a 292 in my hudson today and was installing a used clutch i got locally that the guy said came out of a chevy truck. it's the smaller truck clutch size and the pressure plate fit's the fly wheel, the t/o bearing fits the input shaft, the disc slides on the splines BUT i noticed it had a small circle and said ford in it on the flywheel side of the disc. has anyone else seem anything like this??? do you think he got the disc mixed up? i went ahead and installed it and went together fine. the engine is in too. i know may be crazey to put a used clutch in but i want to see how the engine runs and how everything shakes out till i put money in the parts. thanks hr

You know it shouldn't be a surprise that there is a lot of crossover on parts because of mechanical similarities. That's why there are Hollander books. It's been done for years. It would have helped if you had the original clutch to double check, but I wouldn't sweat it until you try using it. Take it easy on that first engaement. You sure don't want to gouge your flywheel.

As long as it bolts together and works, no problem. I've actually used Ford pistons in a Chevy engine by honing out the Ford piston to use a Chevy wrist pin. (I did that for compression-height concerns with a stroker crankshaft). The parts don't know where they're going! I do find it unusual that a Ford-marked clutch disc would have the same input shaft spline as a Chevy, unless maybe it's intended for one of the B-W 5 speed overdrive boxes that the Mustang runs.
