Is there any general rule as to when you can rebuild a part that is rusted or buy a new part. My fenders have rust around the bottoms of them this is not surface rust. Can i remold the bottom with sheet metal or should I just get a new fender?

What year is your truck? Most parts suppliers have lower fender patch panels that you can weld on. If you have never done body work before you might want someone to help you do it. On my truck a lower rear panel was around $35-$40 vs. replacing the fender for $350

It depends on how much a new part is and how much it would cost to repair the old one. Almost anything can be repaired, but the question is, is it worth it?

My truck is a 54 3/4 ton, 3600. I have been doing lots of reading and reseach but have not found anyone to sell just 1/4 panels. This is all I need for most of my body work as onlu the 1/4 panel is in real bad shape the rest of the rust is surface rust. Can you suggest where to find the 1/4 panels?

This is a very personal question you have to answer for yourself. Many people want to turn every bolt & fix every hole. Others prefer to take the easy way out & buy new.

If you have the time, skill & desire to repair the original steel - go for it. Myself - I lack the skill to do a good job & I prefer to find a bolt on replacement.

I just replaced my passenger door because it had rust. I'll be paying someone to replace my cab corners.
