I was given a 65 chevy long box with a
235 motor and std. tranny..eight studs on wheels
(maybe it's a 3/4 ton??)
Can anyone tell me if this motor will bolt into
my 46 chevy panel...thanks..

It shouldn't be a big problem. You will have to drill holes in the front mounting plate to match your 46 frame(65s used side mounts I think) and use the bell housing & flywheel from your 46 if you are going to keep the orig. running gear. the rest is bolt in. It's a pretty easy swap.

Good Luck

The 235 will fit, and what you have to do depends on the year. 54-early 55 is set up with the correct water pump, later models will need a short shaft pump if you run a mechanical fan.

If your truck has 8 bolt wheels, it should be a 3/4 ton.

Are you sure it's a 235? and not a 230?

Well now Fred I'm not sure if it is a 230 or 235
all I can see is the two first digits ..seems to
be a decal on top of the valve cover..

The 65 should have a 230, 250, 292, not a 235, unless some put a 235 in it. If it has the original factory engine your going to have a bit more of a problem. Find a casting number.

Larry

Are the sides on the valvecover straight and held on with 4 screws (235) or are the sides really curvy and held on with 7 screws (230/250 style)?

I think the 230/250 etc. series has a much different looking manifold too. I wonder if anybody could comment on what the gear ratio would be in the rearend and whether it would have a front access pumpkin that would drop into an older 1 Ton or 3/4 ?

Truckernix, that year is one of the possible donors for a pumpkin for the AD series. However, the standard gears for the 3/4 ton with 4 speed will be 4.57. Usually need to find one with an auto tranny for the 4.10 gears.
