Hi Guys...

I installed 4.10 gears in my '49 Chevy 3600 Eaton HO52 rearend and it's ready for some fresh oil. It has the "No-Spin" Detroit locker option as well. Any recommendations on what oil to use? Do I need to add the GM additive for limited slip?

Thanks,
Dan M.

I have the same in my 63 C20. I been using 90w gear oil and the Stalube additive for the last ten years. You do need a limited slip additive.

I've had the best luck using the genuine gm additive. Also found that the price is not bad either.

One recommendation I heard about was to use Royal Purple synthetic oil with the GM additive. Any thoughts on this combination?

Thanks,

I'm an Amsoil fan over Royal Purple myself.

You shouldn't need any additive with the No-Spin, it works on a different priciple from a Positrac. The additive for Posi rears is actually a friction modifier, necessary to allow the clutch packs to grab. Think of the clutches in a Posi like the clutch packs in an automatic trans, frictions and steels. Now a No-Spin is actually a ratchet mechanism, no plates or friction materials involved.
Use the same lube recommended in the manual. BTW, most performance gear lubes do already have the limited slip additive in them.
