I'm thinking about swapping my torque tube rear for a complete 1955 open drive rearend but I want to make sure I'm getting the right axle.
Thanks

All you need to do is swap the differential itself, the axles are the same on both units. for instance I have been using '49 axles for 10 years with a '57 3.90 differential. I do use an overdrive with this giving me a final drive of 2.73; that is .70 X 3.90 = 2.73

Also, 1955-1st 1/2 ton trucks had an open driveshaft (1954 was the last year for the 1/2 ton torque tube).

1955-1st compared to 1955-2nd
