It would have to come out of an S-10 that had the 4.3 V6, the 4 cylinder and 2.8 V6 transmissions won't bolt up to the 292.

Any year would do. The 4.3 has the same bolt pattern as the 194/230/250/292 6, as well as the Chevy V8s.

thanks for the info, its going in a 53 1/2 ton. I've owned it since 1974, the third owner. I'm looking for a through frame steering box. Would you have any idea on this or what to use?

Thanks for that bit of info. Now I have one more part to put on my shopping list at the local wrecking yard that usually has the good pieces.

any reason your not looking at a 700R4 from behind a V8 vs the V6? It the trans was slated for the V8, it got less discs and steels and a longer spacer (lower torque capability)

Late model V6's used the 4L60e which will require a transmission controller.

s10 auto would have to be from a 4.3L v6, 2wd 1988 to 1992. and it would have electric speedo, but you can swap it out to gear driven easy enough
