Rear end with helper springs

I am in the process of installing the rear end back in my truck. I had a set of helper springs on the top of the axle but am getting rid of them.

I know I do not need the U-bolts that hold the helper spring onto the top mount as the helper springs are now gone but....

If you take a look at the picture, you should be able to see through all the rust, 2 U-bolts that hold the rear end to the main spring. Once I had the mounts all cleaned up, there appears to be a mount for a narrow set of U-bolts that hold the rear end by crossing the front and back of the spring without going over the rear end as pictured in my photo.

How many U-bolts hold the rear end to the main spring once I get rid of the helper springs? 2 or 4?

It looks to me like I only need to 2 inch wide U-bolts; one in front of the rear end and one in back, none that loop over the top of the rear end?

Let me know if this does not make sense and I will post more pics.

Looking around, I found this shot on steppenwood's photos..

From Steppenwood\'s rebuild...

Just making sure this is the standard 1/2 mounting system before I put it all back together?

Yep that's it. Just the two U-bolts over the pivot blocks. Pretty straight foward. Steppenwood's picture is just what it's supposed to look like. If you need it, I can sent you a picture of my rear setup. I've added tublar shocks so the lower plates are a little different but the U-bolts are the same. (sorry can't post it here)

John, If you need those mentioned U-Bolts, I think I still have 'em. Beings that I don't need them anymore, I can send them to you if you're interested. I also have the other surrounding pieces that the U-Bolts hang off of too.

Thanks for the offer. I will probably just order two more. Don't ask me what I was thinking when I only ordered two!! Obviously, I was not thinking clearly..knowing I needed 4.

I know this belongs in the swap section, but did you keep your knee action shocks or did you go to tube? If you are looking to get rid of your shock links and all the hardware, send me a PM...
