Does the 261 fit right in the bay of a '53 1/2 ton? I'm running a 216 at the moment, but would LOVE to squeeze some horses out of a bigger 6-banger. And if I find that this in fact an easy operation, then I going balls-out!! I'll be on the hunt for the right 261!! I've been through the V-8 speeches, brothers, but I really want to stay with a nice, big and healthy 6-er.To stay as close to OG as possible. Through my recent searches I found a place that will rebuild any size GM engine for you,( www.precisionengine.com )Since I'm more the Body/Paint man, this is right up my alley. Only if this is do-able. I'll around if anyone wants send me any kind of info. ..Check you guys later... lazy

There is information on this in the tech section. Some of the things that you need to consider, if you want to stay with the 6V starter/flywheel, you will need to have a water pump that has a shorter shaft, etc.
Good luck and you have a good plan! | | |

Just click the search bar and type in the subject of your search and you will find lots of post that you can read on the swap.
You will find info on the water pump adaptation and specific info about the flywheel and why it has to be changed for 12v starter.
The swap is easy and you not only gain horsepower but you also move up to a high pressure oil system that the 216 does not have.
Good luck and keep us posted on you progress.

I wish someone could give this site www.precisionengine.com a look over. I'm willing to jump right in and get someone at this Precision Engine place to start building me a 261. But, just to have on my brothers checkin this place out would help out a lil more. can't find a 261 around here in my area, maybe someone might know of other places I could look. Well, for now, I'll keep my "feelers" out there lookin for me, but til next time brothers, see you on the block. later..lazy
