They can rebuild any head ever made and do that most of the time. They have large business contracts with the Government, power companies and the sort. He had lots of old heads until about two years ago when they purged the yard of over 20 tons of heads! They are located about a mile from me. When they found a crack in my 216 head I went thru four used heads before I found a good one that would pass magnaflux. Total investment was close to $500 before they ever did any machine work on one. I'm sure ACH could repair a head for less than that. If you do it right, you'll have close to $500 more in new guides, seats and valves by the time you get the head back on.
Of course you might get lucky on the first try.

I've bought three heads and ALL of them were cracked. I decided that it was a bad gamble. Like Denny said - by the time you buy the head and then paid to have it magnafluxed you've got a bunch of money invested. I decided that it was time to pick the best of the three heads and have it repaired.I'm prepared for the fact that the stitch job will not be cheap, but no one said this was an inexpensive hobby! | | |
