Hey all not exactly stovebolt material-
I need to pull the flywheel off of a 1936 John deere unstyled A- I have the correct size bolts- But I am having difficulty finding a pulling tool big enough- Anyone have a good source for this short of making my own.
Thanks,
Sam

Loosen the hub bolts on the inside of the flywheel and remove from the shaft according to the I&T Service Manuel, but I have had to drive a small chisel into the gap on each side of the hub bolts then it should come off. The flywheel is really heavy so be careful. I have used a 6" c-clamp on the flywheel and chained to a cherry picker to hold it up whem removing it. Pick up a manuel at Tractor Supply because their is spicific instructions on installation

I used a piece of 3/4" X 3" steel. I drilled two holes that matched the puller holes. I used a big nut slightly smaller than the crankshaft OD (maybe 3/4") which I welded to the steel bar. The nut is used to push on the end of the crankshaft while the bolts attempt to pull the flywheel off the crankshaft. I then tightened the puller bolts going into the flywheel, making sure to tighten them evenly. This normally pulls the flywheel right off. If you get the bolts tight and the flywheel still will not budge, hit the center of the puller with a big hammer and keep trying to tighten the puller bolts. Be careful to not allow the puller bolts to go too far through the flywheel, which will damage the seal housing or main bearings.

I have a few more tricks up my sleeve if this tip or the others mentioned above do not work.

The john deere manual I have talks about loosening the rear pinch bolts- then using a puller to remove using the two threaded holes and the center guide hole- That's why I asked about the puller-

Is their another way?
Thanks,
Sam

I think it will come off with a puller pretty easily- I just don't have one. . . yet-
I do have bolts that fit-
