I have just resently purchased at 1951 chevy truck and it has this stamped on the inline 6 engine block, "CPA626416" the best I can read.
Can anyone out there tell me and direct me to some internet location of what kind of engine it is? age, place made, etc?

Thanks

Someone else will have to comment on the meaning of "CPA".

If you can post a few casting codes, these would also help to identify the engine.

CPA doesn't come up in my books as a 6 cylinder. The only engine I have listed with that code is a 365 hp 454 for a '71 El Camino.
I'm with Tim, some casting codes and perhaps a few pix will help.

Welcome to the Garage.

You can find Engine ID info here...

Also, there is a raised casting number,
on the lower passenger side of your block.
It either starts with an 8 and has six numbers....
or starts with a 3 and has 7 numbers.

Post that number and someone will tell you what you have.

Let me look again tonight. This number I took of block on passenger side by the coil looking up. I'll work on a picture.
Thank everyone!

I just finished getting my title changed from a engine serial number VIN to the actual truck tag number :-). Funny how things can get mixed up over 60+ years. But then again I'm kind of mixed up myself.

OK, here we go. I've typed in below a link to my website where you'll see the engine stamping. Looks like it could be a CBA and not a CPA.
Once again if anyone can help me and show me what size this engine is I would greatly apprecated.

History: This truck had a California title prior to me, built in Oakland. Title now has truck number "6JPF" rather than old "LCC" engine number.

I vote for "CBA".
Check out this link from chuckthetruck website and look at 1971 and 1972 engines.
CBA is a passenger car 250 found in several models.

Can you post a link to a photo of the valve cover?

Does your engine's valve cover look like the one in the serial-number photo above (that engine is either an early 216 or 235)?

Bruce,

Once again, if you post the block casting number everyone has been asking for, maybe we can tell you what size the engine is.
