Does this make this procedure mainstream or is it still a forbidden act?

They ended up with better tolerances and he reamed the bushing to fit instead of needing some specialized reamer. All that and he got an original dropped axle back in action.

So I designed a jig to drill the eye out at the correct angle. I then turned a bushing and pressed it in. Once the bushing was in, I drilled it with a drill a little under size, then reamed it to the proper diameter. A few more steps were involved, but I dont want to bore everyone. The axle works fine. But since I never done this before, I located another axle just incase. I was pleased with the outcome.
