We pulled the bed off our '55 (1st series) 4400 today. Someone had stuck a army surplus deuce and a half troop bed on her. Just didn't look right. So it had to go.

When we pulled off the bed, we noticed that it appears that two feet had been added to the chassy length at some point. It is 10' from the cab to the added spot, then 2' additional after that for a total of 12'.

What was the "factory chassy length"? (This truck is listed as a 161" wheel base) Did someone add the extra 2', or is that the way it came from the LA factory in '55?

Thanks.

4400 series would indeed be 161"in. wheelbase from the factory.

Virginia,

I do have some photos, but I'll have to get the wife to show me how to attach them! I'll try to get a couple of the chassy to illustrate better what I'm asking.
